THIS READING IS PART OF THE RING-WORKS, A PROGRAM AIMED AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PLAYS AND EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS

Gail and Ben live a charming life in their mobile home in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. One day, Gail enters her bathroom to take a pregnancy test. While awaiting the results, she discovers there's an audience in her bathroom. To make matters worse, Ben doesn’t see the audience at all. Is she just seeing things? Oh, and the test is positive. Despite her own hesitations, Gail decides to have the baby. Well, the audience doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Gail and Ben even move to New Jersey, but the audience remains in the bathroom. Outside, Gail struggles with the overwhelming tedium of motherhood, and to her surprise, starts taking more refuge in the bathroom with the audience. To be honest, they’re not so bad. After all, they are there to see her! She has never captivated this kind of attention before. What if she isn't in a mobile home in Secaucus? What if she's in a play? Regardless, she decides to remain in the bathroom indefinitely.
