America America

Produced by the Players' Ring 

 

Synopsis: When Modesta comes to work for Mark and Jane Goodman as their bi-monthly house housecleaner, it starts out innocently enough. But issues of deeply held xenophobia and a breakdown of trust lead to an explosive conclusion, where perceived roles seem to have reversed.

In English and Spanish (with subtitles)

 

Characters: 

MODESTA: 50. Mexican. Modesta has been in California for 30 years, working as a housekeeper. She cannot speak English. 

JANE PORTMAN: 45. Modesta's new employer. Jane and her husband Mark came to Silicon Valley from Long-Island in the mid-90s. They one son, Benny, who she has raised as a stay-at-home mom.

MARK PORTMAN: 48. An alpha-venture capitalist with an aversion to strangers cleaning his home. 

 

Show Dates: April 5th-14th (Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30m. Saturdays and Sundays @ 2:30pm, total of 8 performances)

 

Rehearsals: Expected to begin in February | 2/3 times per week.

 

Stipend: A nominal "thank you" stipend of $300 for the whole engagement

Audition date and time: Sunday, October 1st | 10am-12pm

REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY. Please arrive on time and be prepared to stay for the whole audition. You will be asked to read from sides available at audition.

MOM: 70. Jane's bossy mother.
