The Cake

Faith. Choice. Dessert.
Mar 5 – Mar 21, 2027

Written by Bekah Brunstetter. Directed by Monique Peaslee Foote.

Della makes the best cakes in town.

For years, she has lovingly baked birthday cakes, wedding cakes, and celebration cakes of every kind in her small North Carolina bakery. So when Jen — a young woman she helped raise — comes home to ask Della to bake a cake for her wedding, it should be a joyful reunion.

There’s just one small surprise.

Jen’s wedding cake is for her marriage to another woman.

Suddenly, Della finds herself caught between the deep love she feels for Jen and the beliefs she has held her entire life. With the help (and occasional confusion) of her sweet but bewildered husband Tim, Della begins a journey that challenges her understanding of faith, family, and what it truly means to love thy neighbor.

Written by Bekah Brunstetter (writer and producer of the hit series This Is Us), “The Cake” is a warm, funny, and deeply human comedy about kindness, change, and the messy, beautiful work of understanding one another.
