| I always hoped theatre would be my profession.
For a while, I bowed to family pressures and chose a more “practical” degree in communication sciences. But life has its ways, and I ended up auditioning for (and getting into) a full-time acting school. Years later I came to a not-so-easy realization: I was not built for the daily struggle that this career may call for. My dad graciously resisted saying I told you so, but was visibly relieved when I enrolled in an MBA. And that’s where things finally clicked. What I am built for is channeling my love and understanding of theatre through planning and caretaking, making the work possible from behind the scenes. Which brings me back to the (very bad quality) photo here. These are my SCORE advisors. SCORE is a nonprofit that pairs small businesses with seasoned mentors — for free monthly meetings (I know!!!). Having the opportunity to strategize with someone outside your own brain and organization can be so useful. It may not sound romantic, but this shimmering, ephemeral artform has a complex business engine underneath. And there’s something energizing and creative about tending to that side, too, with curiosity and love. From my Ring-shaped heart, Margherita |
