Auditions are by appointment and last 5 minutes.
Location: The Players Ring Theatre
Please prepare 30-60 seconds of a song to sing a cappella (no music) and a short poem or monologue to recite (something that shows character).

Performances: Saturday December 12 & 19, Sunday 13 & 20, Sat Sun at 2 PM for a total of 4 shows

ISABELLA MET A FELLA

The first round of auditions will be conducted exclusively through video submissions.
Deadline: 11:59pm on Wednesday, October 7th.
> Please submit a video link (YouTube or Vimeo) for a one-minute comic monologue. Feel free to take any monologue you have and MAKE IT comic. Have some fun. Go over the top. Make it broad and physical. You can use comic text, serio-comic, or even entirely dramatic, as long as YOU make it like you are in the midst of a broad physical comedy.
> Please frame wide enough so you can use your body and the camera can catch what you are doing. You can film this in either landscape or portrait.
Callbacks will be held on Sunday, October 11th,10 AM – 12 PM, by invitation.
Performers of all races, ethnicities, body types, genders, and identities are encouraged to audition.
A note from the director, David Kaye: Isabella Met a Fella by Kevin P. Kern is a wild comedy written in the style of a Commedia Dell’Arte, with eight of the tradition’s characters (Pantalone, Dottore, Capitano, Arlecchino, Colombina, Brighella and the two lovers). The play has music (juke box style) but is not a musical. We will be performing in commedia masks (except the lovers, who are usually not masked) and part of the process of mounting this production will be mask and commedia training for the entire company. This is broad physical comedy that requires actors who love to play and are not afraid to push the comic envelope. The script is very malleable, and we have permission from the playwright to add our own creative comic ideas. This will be the play’s professional premiere.
Character Breakdowns: All of the roles are drawn from the traditional master or servant commedia characters. All of the masked characters could be played by anyone (because they are masked!)
THE MASTER CHARACTERS
Pantalone: The old miser. Father of Isabella. Happy to sell of his daughter to the highest bidder.
Dottore: A pseudointellectual. Often speaks in pig Latin (though that is not in this script, right now). He is usually a little drunk (or a lot). He loves to pontificate but does not have a clue about what he is talking about. He is the father of Silvio.
Capitano: The braggart Spanish soldier. Full of blustery courage but is actually a coward. He is pursing Isabella.
THE SERVANT CHARACTERS
Arlecchino: The wily, lazy man-servant to Dottore. He is usually preoccupied with food, first and kisses from his girlfriend Colombina, second. He is often quite acrobatic. Not terribly bright. And always getting into trouble.
Colombina: Pantalone’s maid, and both a servant and the trusted confidant of Isbella, his daughter. She is often the only character who has any sense and has to take the lead in solving everyone’s problems. She is eager to marry Arlecchino. This character is sometimes masked sometimes not. In this production, I plan to have her masked.
Brighella: Is a very gruff male servant. He is often the boss/Forman of the other servants. And is also often a friend of Arelcchino. In this play, Brighella is actually the MOTHER of Isabella and the ex-wife of Pantalone.
Isabella: The female lover and daughter of Pantalone. As is this case with most of the commedia lovers, she is more in love with the IDEA of love, than perhaps love itself. Her emotions take many 90 degree turns, desperately in love with Siliva one moment and hating him the next, for some romantic infraction. She desperately wants to marry Silvio. Not the brightest candle in the chandelier.
Silvio: The male lover and son of Dotorre. See above (Isabella) for character traits. Desperately in love with Isabella. There is a little bit of a question, in this production, of which way his door swings.
The Priest: This is Brighella in disguise. (In case we have not made this role confusing enough).
Production Details: From 4/2 to 4/18 for a total of 14 performances: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 PM, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 PM.
Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin on/around 2/14, dependent on actor and director availability. There will be approximately 25 rehearsals.
Pay: This is a paid engagement.
