Players' Ring Playwrights Competition has been discontinued

Since its inception The Players' Ring has encouraged and promoted the production of original works by local playwrights.  For the first eight years this mission was implemented by Ring Founder F. Gary Newton who also wrote material for the stage.

After Gary’s passing the Ring Board of Directors decided to sponsor an annual competition as a means or attracting original works for possible production.  This annual competition brought in numerous works and the winner of each year’s competition would have his/her work produced in the following season.  Some of the plays were produced later after the writers worked with Board Members to improve suitability for the Ring stage.

By 2007 the Players' Ring Board realized that the message about original works had truly made its impact.  Playwrights and potential producers made “pitches” at the annual Producers’ Meeting, taking their chances among their peers at gaining a slot in the upcoming season.  With declining interest in the competition the Players' Ring Board decided to discontinue it altogether.

Thus we see here to provide information to playwrights who might have submitted work through the competition or who simply seek guidance on how to present their work for production.  As a playwright you can attend the Producers’ Meeting and:

.           Submit a play at the meeting for production by the Players' Ring.

.           Submit and produce an original play or other work with your own resources or as a production company.

.           Network with others who are in a similar situation and who may be seeking to participate in other productions as actors, directors, technical people or volunteers.

At the Producers’ Meeting, Board Members and outside “judges” will hear each proposal

and review the selection process.  Those whose work is selected for production will be notified about their acceptance.  Once the Season is finalized, arrangements will be made with each production group to review and sign the Producer’s Agreement.

A copy of the Producer’s Packet will be available at the Producers’ Meeting for informational purposes, and Players' Ring Board Members will be glad to answer any questions about the Agreement and the process.
