The Warmth of the Cold is a family drama set in rural New Hampshire in the middle of winter on the day of the year's worst snowstorm.  It is a deeply felt and poignant story about a family dealing with hardship and loss who are caught - to use Tennessee William's expression - "in the thundercloud of a common crisis."

The story centers on Carol and her two teenage children, Samantha and Robbie, who are struggling to carry on after the death of Hal, the husband and father.   After being forced to take a job as a truck driver when the mill in their small New Hampshire town closes, Hal was killed in an accident.  Carol, unable to accept Hal's death, escapes into a fantasy world where she converses with him every day through the static in the radio.  Robbie and Samantha are forced to grow up too fast and become the adults in this dysfunctional and somewhat crazy household.  Robbie steps into his father's shoes to become the "man of the house" and struggles to keep the family together while Samantha does everything she can to find a way out.
