In northern New Mexico, amid the collision of three cultures, three generations of women meet in a cauldron of severe beauty that lays their lives bare. A newly divorced woman returns to the roots she renounced long ago, bringing an adolescent daughter who has no knowledge of her grandparents – abuelos – and her buried heritage.  Both must contend with the family's estranged matriarch, a widowed artist who has lived life on her own terms in a bubble that now threatens to burst.  All must come to terms with each other to find their lost American dream and begin a new life…
